Once Upon A Few Seconds Ago

Across the park - past the brightly painted swings and slide that stood in gravel pits, just beyond the throw of the streetlight - the trees suddenly crowded into a dense shadow.

blink

For a second he saw a shape - large dark and alive - framed by trees, black against blacker still.

blink

He felt his heart quicken, nothing that big lives here this close to the city.

blink

The shadow in the shadows moved again. He felt or saw it turning towards him.

blink

He caught a whiff of stagnant water, rotting leaves, the sick sweet of fermenting fruit.

blink

A spot, a tiny spot. Now two. Like red pin-pricks of light - side by side, they seemed to train on him. Like eyes - a pair of red eyes that began to stare and...

blink

His breath caught in his chest. He feared the dark, the tiny red lights - the eyes. Perhaps it would not see him if he didn't breathe or move or...

blink

It closed the distance between them in a blur. A smokey streak of midnight carelessly swinging the swings as it passed. Faster than an animal should run or even...

blink

He exhaled a scream.

Weird.

40 of the last 100 hits on the epistle have been this Felix The Cat post from year one. Why? I dunno.

 I added the song now.

ABC - FEAR OF THE WORLD

Felix the cat
The wonderful, wonderful cat
Whenever he gets in a fix
He reaches into his bag of tricks

Felix the cat
The wonderful, wonderful cat
You'll laugh so much your sides will ache
Your heart will go pit-a-pat
Watching Felix the wonderful cat

Y10K

Kraftwerk - MUSIQUE NON-STOP

(10K Buddhas)

Since January of 2007, the epistle has received over ten thousand hits. Admittedly, most are anonymous bounces generated by search engines and tag lines. 10,000 contacts but no touching.

Speaking on behalf of all Exhibitionists, it's a cool time to be alive.

In the last 100 hits on the epistle there were contacts from six of the seven continents. I can't seem to break into the Antarctic Scientists scene.

In the last 100 hits, people from 22 countries stopped by. Some of them will return daily/weekly/monthly. Some will never come again.

Whether this is "farewell" or "see ya later" it has been a pleasure having you.

Hey Cow! I See You Now.

My Sister nicknamed me "Cow" 30 years ago and I've always loved JOE RAPOSO'S vocal performance on the SESAME STREET Classic Film - HOW MILK IS MADE.

The CURSE of VERSE (for better...worse) IV

OH!
I fixed my kitten
then I broke my arm-
the Universe's Irony is sick with charm!

To an Existentialist it meant no harm.
That's just how the car is totaled on the karmic farm.
